Design Highlights

Overview

I owned the design vision for Knak's Email & Landing Page Editor, the visual builder at the centre of how marketing teams create, collaborate on, and publish campaigns. Often described as 'Figma for email,' the platform removes technical barriers while preserving enterprise-grade control for designers, marketers, copywriters, and operations teams.

Challenge

Marketing teams traditionally struggled with fragmented, technically complex workflows for creating email and landing page campaigns. Creation required HTML/CSS coding skills, limiting output to technical resources and creating bottlenecks. Designers would create mockups in design tools, then hand them off to developers to code, a slow, error-prone process that took days. Marketers couldn't make simple content changes without developer assistance. Teams worked sequentially with multiple handoffs, and maintaining brand consistency across campaigns was difficult without centralized design systems. The result was slow campaign velocity, high dependency on technical resources, and inconsistent brand experiences.

Approach

I led the design of a visual builder that lets non-technical marketers create professional campaigns without giving up enterprise capabilities. I designed concurrent editing for designers, marketers, copywriters, and operations; built the design system and theming architecture; and connected publishing to Marketo, Eloqua, HubSpot, and Pardot.

Solution

I shaped an end-to-end canvas with drag-and-drop modules, reusable component libraries, brand themes, precise visual controls, review and approval workflows, translation support, and direct publishing. Multiple roles can now work in the same document rather than waiting through sequential handoffs.

Impact

Marketers, designers, copywriters, and operations teams can work in the same campaign instead of waiting through sequential handoffs or relying on HTML specialists. Customers reduced campaign creation from days to hours while the editor served 7,000+ monthly active users with 70+ NPS. For Knak, the trusted core workflow became the platform foundation for collaboration, reusable brand systems, downstream integrations, and every subsequent AI feature.

Key Learnings

I learned that multi-role products have to balance an approachable default with power features for specialists. Concurrent editing changes more than the interface; it changes how teams divide the work. A flexible design system and direct downstream integrations gave us the foundation to add AI features without rebuilding the core product.
